About the Course

College professors from Pennsylvania State University, University of British Columbia, West Virginia University and Colorado School of Mines will teach this mining/mineral processing professional engineer review course. During this instructor-led course, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and gain confidence on exam topics.

Note: This is a review course and is not an introduction to any of the topics covered. Its purpose is to provide an overall review of the subjects covered in the test. Instructors do not know the contents of the exam nor do they submit problems for the actual exam.

Course in Review

The SME PE Review Course is a 5-day course covering each of the examination subject topics, terminology, concepts and also provides a multitude of information and sources for executing the exam. In addition to subject review, the course covers terminology and concepts and provides a multitude of information and sources for executing the exam.

The PE exam itself is open book and given in two 4-hour sessions consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions. To learn more about the PE exam or register to take the PE exam, visit the NCEES website.

Subject Matter

This 5-day review course will cover 80 questions in the following examination subject areas:

  • Exploration (10 questions)
  • Mine Planning and Operations (32 questions)
  • Environmental and Reclamation (14 questions)
  • Mineral Processing (24 questions)
